Overview

New 5-STAR lodge  is set to open in Northern Kenya and we are searching for a dynamic and experienced General Manager to lead this 5-star property. This unique opportunity calls for a professional with extensive experience in managing luxury lodges, particularly in remote areas, and who possesses a solid understanding of lodge operations, financial management, and relationship building. The ideal candidate will be passionate about hospitality and eager to build and inspire a new team in a pristine, untouched environment.

Key Responsibilities

Relationship Development:

    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with the lodge team, guests, conservancy partners, and the local community.
    • Foster connections with the broader Kenyan hospitality industry to enhance the lodge’s reputation and network.

Community Engagement and Development:

    • Identify and drive initiatives for community development that align with local culture and expectations.
    • Engage actively with the community to integrate the lodge into the local social and cultural landscape.

Business Efficiency and Operations:

    • Investigate and implement business efficiencies to optimize cost control and enhance operational performance.
    • Focus on local procurement practices and sustainability initiatives to support the lodge’s environmental goals.

Guest Experience Management:

    • Champion the development of exceptional guest experiences and touchpoints within the lodge and the surrounding conservancy.
    • Ensure that all guest interactions are personalized and exceed expectations.

Financial Oversight:

    • Oversee the lodge’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
    • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial planning to ensure the lodge’s financial health and sustainability.

Team Recruitment and Development:

    • Collaborate with Human Capital to recruit, train, and develop a high-performing lodge team.
    • Provide ongoing guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

Operational Reporting:

    • Manage the preparation and maintenance of all necessary reports for lodge functions.
    • Ensure that reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned with operational goals.

Health and Safety Management:

    • Oversee the health and safety of guests, staff, and company assets.
    • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements and implement safety protocols effectively.

Sustainability Practices:

    • Support and implement sustainability practices that align with the lodge’s goals and company values.
    • Promote eco-friendly initiatives and ensure that the lodge operates in an environmentally responsible manner.

Company Program Support:

    • Support and implement all company programs and initiatives.
    • Ensure that lodge operations are in alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Several years of experience in managing a 5-star lodge or similar high-end property, particularly in remote or challenging locations.
  • Demonstrable experience in lodge operations, financial management, and relationship management.
  • Strong understanding of hospitality industry standards and practices.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team, with a focus on teamwork and unity.
  • Experience in community engagement and development, with a sensitivity to local cultures and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid grasp of sustainability practices and environmental stewardship.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
