Should Gay Couples be Allowed to Adopt Children?

The issue of the adoption of children between homosexual couples has aroused diverse awareness among the population. Some people believe that the right to adopt children should be restricted, while most believe that the right to adopt children should be equal for all couples regardless of gender. In the United States population, there are clearly more than 500,000 same-sex couples (Appell, 2011). Such a measure can promote the development of equal rights among ethnic minorities in the population, especially in developed countries. However, evidence of contrary arguments regarding the adoption of children by homosexuals suggests that there is evidence of discrimination based on age, gender, sexual orientation, or beliefs. The increase in controversy over homosexual adoption has challenged the perceptions of those who oppose this idea by proving that the various benefits associated with homosexual parenting are less affected by heterosexual adoptive parents. Thus, allowing homosexuals to adopt can bring many benefits, so it must be legalized and accepted on a global scale.

Homosexual adoption can bring many benefits, which is often misunderstood by heterosexual families, who believe that children will face some challenges in adapting to the sexual orientation of adoptive parents. For instance, Williams (2006) said that children who grow up in gay families are confused about their gender identity and have difficulty adapting. By showing the advantages of gay adoption over many people's expectations, a huge misunderstanding was resolved. For instance, compared to the frequent frustrations of heterosexual marriages, the close ties between most gay couples are crucial to the success of the family. Additionally, with such growth status of adopted gay men, due to mutual appreciation between parents, they are likely to have a strong sense of equality between the two sexes, which may benefit a more diverse generation.

It has been observed that gay couples can become great parents compared to heterosexuals, which shows that they are just as good as heterosexuals at parenting. Approximately half of heterosexual parents encounter a life accident or disability, one of them may choose to give birth and therefore may opt for adoption measures (Denney, 2014).

With this in mind, there is a high possibility of homosexual partners developing a stable relationship that may result in good parenting contrary to heterosexual marriages. There is a high tendency of the adopted child being more secure and safe with the homosexuals than the heterosexual that can boost development of an emotionally stable home setting.
